Special in God's Eyes
On March 10, 2009, our church saw the start of a new ministry here at St. Matthew, when the “Special in God’s Eyes” group was created. We started with 3 young people from the community and one from our church and now have grown to a group of seven. The group includes Austin, Robby, Chelsea, Vinnie, Maggie, Kristin and Jourden. These young adults have been a real blessing to our church!
In January, we celebrated Vinnie's birthday and took a trip to the Barrington Fire Station. Check out the video below:
We meet every Tuesday, from 3-4:30pm to do odd jobs around the church, including cleaning the pews and folding anything the church secretary can throw at us! We take time to have a devotion and snack and then we play in the gym or watch Veggie Tales. We had a non-scary Halloween party on October 27th, made pizzas and taffy apples.
At present, we have several volunteers, including Mary Schippel, Margaret Christiansen, Fred Armstrong, Dan Fuhs, Dave Marks, Stephanie Strick, Dan Doyle, Penny Moll and Pat Marks. We could always use more volunteers, especially as our numbers are growing! If you can only come and help once or twice a month, that would be great. If you cannot get to church until 3:30, that’s fine also.
Our group is also in need of funds. We use the money to buy food and supplies for our various projects. If you are so moved, please give to the Special Needs Fund through Special Gifts.
The Lord is doing a work here. Please join us! Please feel free to speak with any of the individuals named above should you have any questions.
